You don't need either, actually. You can get an "emergency
certification" to do per diem substitute teaching. I got
mine through the local IU (Intermediate Unit). The nice
thing about going that route is that you can tell them which
districts you want to sub in, and they blow out your
paperwork to all of them. So you only have to do your
paperwork ONCE.
Or, you can approach each District separately that you want
to teach in. Trust me, they are always looking for good subs
and will be happy to help you with the paperwork. Typically,
you go to their website, click on Employment area, and find
the Substitute teaching positions listed. Then you just
contatct the person listed as liason.
It will take a month or two to get all your paperwork
together, so be patient.
You WILL need:
- PA State Police clearance
- FBI Clearance
- PA Child Abuse Clearance
- Employment physical (? Not sure about this - basically a
general physical w/TB test)
You can get all these formas off the PA DOE website:
http://www.teaching.state.pa.us/teaching/cwp/view.asp?
a=13&q=125828&teachingNav=|10670|&teachingNav=|93|
I hope this helps. (You can start the clearance process
while you are talking to the Districts/IU people)
Good luck,
Jennifer
