I am a girl in financial distress(laid off a yr ago and
unable to find any work beyond temp and part-time
restaurant work) who is enrolled in a secondary education
program.
This summer, I was cited for summary offense "disorderly
conduct". The circumstances regarding this charge are
ridiculous -- I was the victim of a theft, and the security
staff didn't do squat to apprehend the theives or even
submit my theft report to the police, yet they called the
police to arrest me for D.C. because they didn't like me
whining about my plight(robbed + left absolutely stranded)
to my friend.
I have a few weeks before I'm scheduled to go to court for
this(I initially pled "not guilty"). I'd like to keep
pleading "not guilty" but I cannot afford a lawyer. (A
lawyer would cost even more $$ than the max $300 fine for
D.C. would!) I've been calling around trying to find out
info about free lawyers/legal aid, because that would be
better than nothing, but I'm not sure if legal aid even
covers summary offenses.
If I ultimately get charged with summary offense D.C. --
will this ruin my chances of becomming a teacher? I've
already obtained all of the necessary background checks,
and they're good for 1 yr, which will include the time
frame I'll be student teaching. I realize that summary
offenses do not bar you from getting PA certified to teach,
but -- will high schools elect to not hire me anyway, based
on this ridiculous citation? Please advice. Thanks!
